Brief About The Project:
Our project is located in the divided city of Nicosia, Cyprus, and attempts to explore the effect of urban design on dealing with conflict. Our Masterplan proposal aims to tackles the physical, social, and political barriers with injecting catalysts of change across multiple phases. Phase one “Dialogue”, then “Safety”, then “Exchange”, and finally “Memorialization”. The intervention starts from within the buffer zone, to afterwards spread throughout the city. This helps to shift the power of the “Dead Zone” from being a space that excludes and alienates, to instead serve as an environment of inclusiveness that eventually dissolves division.
